Expert forum: AI Research in Ingolstadt, 12.05.2022

Artificial intelligence has long ceased to be a vision of the future and is now rapidly gaining importance in numerous industries. Artificial intelligence opens up a multitude of possibilities for society and companies to solve problems, increase the quality of life and open up new business models.

The Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences (THI) is outstanding nationwide in research and teaching. As part of the Hightech Agenda Bavaria, Ingolstadt has become an AI node for mobility with a focus on autonomous driving, unmanned flying, digital production and cross-cutting topics such as medicine, commerce, ethics and text and speech understanding. The activities of the AI node are bundled in „AImotion Bavaria“, an institute of the THI. With its 20 professorships and soon 120 scientists in the field of AI, the THI is an important powerhouse of AI research in the Federal Republic. The aim is to contribute to securing the technological leadership of Bavaria as a business location in order to strengthen its key industries and to secure its future viability from an ecological, economic and social perspective.

Seven professorships in the field of data science have also been created at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Here, too, further research capacities are being built up to strengthen Ingolstadt as a location in the field of AI.

In addition, the Artificial Intelligence Network Ingolstadt gGmbH (AININ) was founded at THI at the beginning of April 2019. With AININ, seven partners from science, business and society have joined forces to research forward-looking topics in the fields of AI and machine learning. AININ aims to transfer the research results generated into socially relevant products or production methods and subsequently into start-ups. The shareholders of AININ gGmbH are AUDI AG, Media Saturn, Klinikum Ingolstadt, Fraunhofer, IFG, Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, the City of Ingolstadt and THI.

On this evening, Dr. Christian Lösel, Managing Director of AININ gGmbH, will give start-up entrepreneurs an overview of AI research in Ingolstadt.
